Mendelssohn on Mull 2022

Ying Xue could not be with her fellow members of the Doric Quartet in 2022, as she was expecting a baby who arrived in October.

The Doric have traditionally presented the first two concerts on the island themselves – this time all four young violinists were able to sit in Ying’s seat, an exciting experience for them and us.

The final music of the week was Tchaikovsky’s wonderful Souvenir de Florence, and here the three Dorics sat in second place, allowing the younger musicians to take on very demanding roles. We welcomed visitors from Slovenia, Catalonia, and Brazil among our eight young professionals.

Eight days on the magic isle of Mull – who would have thought that this would be one of the highlights of my entire life as a musician? With that stunning landscape it was really easy to remind ourselves everyday that music connects people, nature and souls in the most genuine way.
